Why register your bird?

Your bird’s identity deserves a record that can grow with its life. The National Exotic Bird Register brings identification details, keeper history and supporting information together, helping you care for the record as well as the bird.

The National Exotic Bird Register is operated by NEBR Ltd, company number 17525821. It is an independent UK registration and record-keeping service.

A permanent identity for your bird

Every completed registration receives a unique, permanent NEBR Bird ID. The number links the bird’s registration history through changes of keeper and remains part of the historical record after a death is reported. It complements a ring or microchip; it does not physically identify an unmarked bird on its own.

One registration payment, a lifetime record

Lifetime registration is paid for through a one-off registration charge, rather than an annual renewal charge for that registration. Your quotation is based on the bird’s classification and the number of birds registered, and is shown before payment.

Lifetime service depends on NEBR Ltd continuing to operate the register, or an agreed successor continuing the service. It is not a guarantee of indefinite company operation. Transfers, optional products, replacements and other separately priced services may involve additional charges; they are not automatically included in the original payment.

Keep important information together

Use the Keeper Portal to view your registered birds, identification details and registration status. Keep relevant ring and microchip information, country of birth and other recorded details connected to the correct bird. Personal details and eligible bird information can be updated, while changes requiring review are handled through the appropriate NEBR process.

Supporting documents and identification photographs have private, controlled access. Keeping them with the record helps avoid important information becoming scattered across emails and paper files. Uploading evidence does not mean its contents have been independently verified by NEBR.

A record that reflects life’s changes

The system supports registration requests and quotations, changes of keeper, lost or stolen reports, recovery updates and death reporting. These processes preserve relevant history rather than simply replacing the bird’s identity whenever circumstances change.

A transfer request must complete the required acceptance, registration and payment steps before the change is finalised. Reporting a bird lost or stolen does not change its ownership. When a death is recorded, the Bird ID and historical record are retained, and routine changes and transfers are restricted.

Pedigree and supporting records

Where parentage is recorded, NEBR’s pedigree tools help you explore family relationships and available ancestry. A coefficient of inbreeding (COI) can be calculated from the recorded ancestry, with coverage information explaining the limits of the result.

Keeper-declared parentage is not automatically independently verified. Missing ancestors affect what a pedigree or COI result can tell you. The portal also provides space to record insurance details; recording a policy does not confirm that cover is valid or that a claim will be accepted.

Registration certificates designed for security

A personalised printed registration certificate is intended to provide a physical record of the information held by NEBR at the time of issue. The planned security design includes security paper and fine-line background printing, microtext, a margin barcode, a certificate reference and verification code, a manual Chief Registrar signature, and a numbered hologram or seal.

These features are designed to help checks and make unauthorised alteration easier to identify; they do not make a document impossible to copy. A certificate should be checked against the relevant NEBR record. Examples shown on the website are illustrations, not issued documents. Certificate issuing and delivery, and online public certificate verification, are not yet available. Registered Death Certificates are not currently issued.

An NFC card linked to the bird’s record

An NFC identification card is designed to offer a convenient way to reach a bird’s NEBR information with a compatible phone. It carries the permanent Bird ID and selected bird details, without displaying the keeper’s private contact information. The card supports identification and record access; it is not a tracking device and does not locate a missing bird.

A first NFC card is included with some size categories and available as an optional paid extra with others. Your quotation explains what is included. Card issuing, activation and delivery are not yet available, and public online verification remains unavailable.

Eligible discounts and collection pricing

If you register multiple birds, your quotation applies the relevant pricing tiers and any collection-pricing rules for which the registration qualifies. Any valid discount must meet its stated eligibility conditions and be reflected in the quotation before payment.

Discounts and collection pricing are not a promise that every registration or optional service is reduced. Approved breeder stock registration has separate rules and may qualify for free registration; transfer to a private keeper still requires the applicable registration and payment steps. No third-party or insurance discount is promised.

Privacy, continuity and the limits of registration

Keeper identity, contact details, documents and identification photographs are not intended for public disclosure through verification. Public checks are designed to show only selected record information, and are not yet available online.

If NEBR plans to close, NEBR Ltd will make all reasonable efforts to preserve the register through a suitable purchaser or successor. Where reasonably practicable, account holders will be informed in advance. Express agreement will be sought before a voluntary transfer of identifiable keeper records to a new operator; silence will not count as agreement. Read the Terms for the full policy.

NEBR registration records information; it does not by itself establish legal ownership, independently verify every submitted fact, replace CITES documentation or meet statutory licensing requirements.
